Running on a Prayer

Running on a Prayer

For the past 2 weeks I have been running without listening to music. In the beginning, I didn’t understand how someone could possibly run for hours without a beat or voice playing around them. The noise would help drown out the panting and stomping of the feet to help me forget I was exerting some level of effort.

A goal I have for 2011 is to pay more attention to what’s around me. This is a challenge as my brain has a hard time slowing down and noticing what is going on. Combine that with the competitive nature of wanting to go fast, and long distance running can be a chore.

When I recognize that I have an area to work on, I immediately jump all over it. I thought that running without music would be very challenging, but actually have found my speed increasing and becoming more consistent. Of all things, I try not to think about running when running. What I’m finding is that it’s a good time to try and solve issues and to also pray.

I have been finding that praying while running is amazingly relaxing. Going to continue on this journey of running on a prayer.
