Finding the Time to Run
The last few weeks have been an adventure. I completed the Bear Chase Trail 50k race, then last week at a job, followed by a new week at a job. People asking me when my next race is, will I go back to the Leadville 100 Mile Trail Run, and when I’m running to work again. Then, there’s trying to figure out when to fit running back in again.
That’s a lot of stuff.
Over the past 2 weeks, I haven’t run more than 10 miles a week. This has been due to a fully packed family and work schedule. For some reason, I can’t seem to get by on less than 8 hours of sleep. Just won’t get out of bed. Not sure why, 6 hours used to be plenty. Go to bed at 9p, get up at 4a and run. Body says no.
Maybe it is a good thing. Take a little hiatus for a couple weeks. Not completely, but lighten the load a little while adjusting to new job.
To solve the challenge of when to run, I went to the drawing board:
I see some times I can run, but also realize that what looks good on paper doesn’t always translate to reality.
For instance, if I could just wake up at 4a ready to go then all my training challenges would be solved! I am sure that day will come back, so I’ll put that in the ideal plan. Of course, if I waited for the ideal plan then I would never run.
Plus, I have variables in my schedule. Add in 4 kids and now we’re into some high-level algebra formulas.
Time will come back and mentally I can jump right back in. Who knows, maybe I’ll just do a 25 mile run to work next week …
