Colorado Flooding Road Missing

Over the past 5 days the nation has watched parts of our state fill up with water from the rain. After 2 days I couldn’t take it anymore and had to go explore. What better way than to do so on my feet? After all, many of the roads were not accessible by car, so those seemed like the best roads to run down first.

Exploring Mother Nature’s force is something that intrigued me when I was 16 growing up in Maine. After a snowstorm that would drop 1-2 feet of snow on the ground, I would get in the car and drive. While others were hunkerin’ down and cracking open a Bud, I was driving as fast I could through snowbanks. Was I driving a truck? Oh no. I was driving a small 1986 Dodge Omni hatchback. A car that I could pickup a move around.

After breakfast my dog (Rocky) and I headed out for our run. It was only a mile in before we found our first road closure.

About a quarter of a mile later we found out why. There was a semi-river running across it:

Taking a left onto the next road, I was a little surprised at all the traffic. A mile later I would find out why:

People had to find alternate routes. In the photo half the road is missing. 2 days later the hole expanded to across the street.

It was nice to get out of the house to get a run in. Seeing the destruction water can create is amazing. While we just have to boil the water that comes out of our tap, it is mindblowing to imagine the damage thousands of others have from flooding to houses being washed away.
