Donuts While Running

Donuts While RunningIt’s no secret that I like donuts and coffee. My first full-time job was at the Dunkin’ Donuts in Rumford, Maine. I worked the night shift and did the finishing of the donut. That meant frosting, filling, and sprinkles. I blasted the music and worked away all night. It was really a great first job that I still look back on. Learned a lot about responsibility and how to build relationships. Much of my business success credit goes back to that town and the independence my parents gave me to figure it out on my own.

It didn’t take long for my coworkers to learn about my passion for donuts. Really, my ability to eat like a 400lb man during a 40 mile week of running. One particular day recently, I didn’t wake up early enough to get in a run. I had the delusion that I would be able to sneak one in during the day. Unfortunately, emails started flowing and questions popped up around every click. Motivation was fading fast.

That’s when someone came to the rescue. Out came a little white paper bag that had the label “Donut Haus” from Estes Park. In an instant, energy returned. I opened the bag to find a 4 donut holes waiting for me. Wow did that change my day around! Those bakery delights did not last long and were followed by a large glass of water. Then I changed into running clothes and hit the trais. It was a great 5 mile run around Dixon Reservoir that took me by another dozen runners and 2 horses. Such a great mid-day run out in the sun!

All motivated by donuts. And a super cool coworker. Surround yourself with the right people and you can do great things.
