39:20 – 4 miles 4×400

Decided to just do a small speed workout and try to catch up on sleep from the weekend.

Yesterday I did an 8 mile run to test out a new Nathan Hydration Vest and Honeystinger Waffles. First, the waffles are awesome! Tasty, more calories, and no stomach issues. Zero complaints on the waffles.

The Nathan Hydration Vest … I rinsed out the bag which the water goes in a couple of times the day before using it. After putting on the vest, my first impression was how comfortable it was. I was expecting to hear sloshing about in the pack, rubbing on the shoulders, and access to the hose. None of that was an issue. Well-balanced and light! The issue that I did run into was the taste coming out of the house. The water tasted like the rubber smell from the water pouch. I gagged through it for a few more miles, but had a feeling that I was not going to like this for much longer. The thought of not having access to my water in that time did not appeal, so I did a U turn and headed back home.

After I arrived back home I washed the inside with soap and water 3 times. This morning I ran with the vest and while it was significantly better, the taste was still slightly there. My hope is that this will either go away soon or I adjust to it. Being able to carry around 70 oz of water brings a certain comfort on those 20+ mile runs early in the morning.
