Fantastic Four Things Friday – Week Recap No. 8

1. Daughter Turns 5
Every birthday should be treated as a big milestone celebration. This week I was traveling on my daughter’s birthday day, but thanks to modern technology, we were able to Skype video. It allowed me to experience her getting the morning donut with a candle, singing, and opening some presents. Her turning 5 means that this fall we will have 3 kids in elementary school. Old!

2. Running in Anaheim
Running by Angels Stadium
One of the ways I make traveling tolerable is by putting my feet to use. Runners are a wide and diverse community that are excited to share their city with them. Before arriving in a new city, I turn to social media to find out where to run. The hotel I was staying at just happened to be .6 miles from Angels Stadium and then another mile to Honda Stadium. Out to the adventure!
Side story … was out to dinner one night and the waitress mentioned she was starting school for sports medicine. I said great I have questions! She said she was the person to answer, so here’s how it went:
Me: What should one eat when running for 5-6 hours.
Her: I’m sorry, for how long?
Me: 5-6 hours.
Her: Ummm … dense carbs.
Me: Interesting. So what exactly do you mean by dense carbs?
Her: Ummmm … bread.
There was not much conversation after that.

3. Opportunities
I feel very fortunate to have a solid group of friends and professional network that frequently reach out to me with projects and opportunities. It is difficult to say no, and rarely I do, I normally say let’s have a conversation about it. Always great to reconnect and find out what’s out there. There are many out there looking for work, so I don’t ever take this for granted.

4. Running Running Running
It’s rare that before I even arrive to the weekend that I can say I have run more then 20 miles, but this is one of those times. I hope to put in some time on my feet this weekend, but also know my daughter has her birthday party. Going outside on a 5 mile run things started to click. To go faster, take shorter steps. Seems like you’re working harder when actually just working smarter. I like that.

Oh and this is true:
Worrying is like praying for what you don't want

  1. Aww, hope your daughter had a great birthday!!  You are not old!  Good to see Angels Stadium! We’ll get to run through it again this September at Disneyland Half! So excited for that race!

  2. I love that you are so connected with your children and got to share the morning donut and candle with your daughter! It will be great to share with my Mom, a classic worry, worry, worry Mom the little clip about the wastefulness of it!

And thanks for posting about the small steps. I am still trying to learn the solid mechanics/basics of running and often think I need to be taking longer strides for some reason. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
