I have been debating on putting down into words the kind of year 2012 was and what 2013 holds in store for me. The debate has been about finding the time to do it before it is viewed as too late. As I come to find out, it is never too late to reflect on the past. In fact, allowing more time to pass and collecting data can make the reflection more accurate.

Hell with that … just go with gut.

PageLines- Ambulance.jpg2012 was a learning year. That’s what you call an experience where you screw up bunches of times. You know, like getting your first DNF that put you in an ambulance or deciding your first 100 mile race would be one of the most difficult in the country so you miss the cutoff time at mile 52.

Even with all of those “learning experiences” there were some reaffirming moments of 2012.

– It was my first year as a sponsored athlete
– Completed another 50 mile race in Leadville
– Completed my first triathlon

Fish Hatchery Leadville 100Looking ahead to 2013, first and foremost I will be back to complete the Leadville 100 Mile run August 17th. Last year when I registered for the event I about had a panic attack. What was I thinking registering for a 100 mile race at 12,000 feet in elevation? Ridiculous, but an opportunity to continue the quest of finding my line of possibility. And I found it. At 12,600 feet at mile 47 of the event.

This year, registering for the Leadville 100 was more excitement than it was nerves. I have learned a few things over the past 2 months. I have also increased my weekly mileage to test out the possibility. All signs are pointing to getting back to the 50 and 100 mile distance races that I enjoy. I will run several marathons this year as supported long runs and a chance to mingle with people.

The year is already off to a great start with 45+ mile weeks and being named 1 of 12 Ambassadors to the Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon. I will be doing more video blogs on here and continue my motivational speaking.

No doubt about it though, I will complete a 100 mile race by the end of 2013.
