Sunrise over Turquoise Lake

This was one of those weeks that I won’t forget the rest of my life.

1. Taking on Leadville 100 Mile Run
Sunrise over Turquoise Lake
I showed up, ran, cried, laughed, saw llamas, and met great people. You can read the full Leadville 100 recap but you have to be there to experience it. Even those that came to cheer me on said it was an experience they won’t forget. People often say that just getting to the starting line is an accomplishment. This was the first event that I felt that was actually true. After all, I practically had a panic attack just registering for the event 8 months prior. It was a fantastic experience that I encourage everyone to be part of … whether running the entire 100, pacing 10 miles, being part of a crew, or volunteering. Experience the atmosphere.

2. Accepted full-time job offer
After taking the summer off (haven’t been to an office since mid-May), I came back from Leadville to a flood of job offers. Previous companies that I had interviewed with were calling me back saying “oops”, new opportunities popped up and were interview followed by offer, and then the one I had been hoping for over 2 months came through. It was an extremely difficult decision to choose and I feel very blessed to have had to make a choice. Starting next week I’ll be in an office again … which generally means more running for some reason.

3. Running with a 3 year old
Tanya has gone back to teaching again and with me not having to report to an office yet, I get to drop off the 3 oldest to school. Then I spend the day with our 3 year old. The conversations with her are much more interesting then ones I have with many adults. We walk through the grocery store cracking each other up, waving to random people, and dancing down the aisles. I also decided to try running while pushing her in an old Radio Flyer tricycle. The tricky part is that it’s a bit wobbly. The hard part is that she can turn the front wheel with the handles. Certainly made sure I didn’t think about running! We had a great time looking at construction, talking about people, and trying not to suddenly veer into traffic.

4. Made Whoopie Pies
With my mom being in town from Maine, I knew that we would be having whoopie pies. There are several recipes and the choice for this week was pumpkin. Not just pumpkin, but also added chocolate chips. Yum! The filling is either cream cheese or whipped cream base. As we try to be somewhat healthy, we went with whipped cream. Ian brought in 30 to school which was a nice first week treat for them!

Kids joke of the week:
How do you get a tissue to dance?
Put a little boogie in it!
