100 Miles in 1 Day
26:00 – 2.4 miles
It’s kind of funny that my first post after registering for the Leadville 100 Mile Trail Run comes on a day I did a 2.4 mile jog. I would only have to do that 41 more times to complete the race!
This is the first race that I have signed up for since my first marathon in 2009 that I have almost had an anxiety attack filling out the form. I’ve read enough books and race reports around this event to know the challenge I am embarking on. I also know that distance running is almost all mental. I’m allowing my brain to freak out knowing that I have until August to convince and prove to myself that I can complete 100 miles in 1 day.
To make this even more challenging, I have decided to raise $10,000 for the American Cancer Society. It also allows non-endurance people to wrap their brain around why someone would go 100 miles on foot in 1 day. Quite frankly, I had planned on doing the race no matter what, but if I’m going to garner attention around it, I want to put it to good use.
Most people are donating $50 – $100 towards this fundraiser and you can do so here. Over the next several months there will be events for to fundraise that starts out with a Texas Holdem’ Poker Tournament in January. If you are in the Denver area and are interested in attending or helping to gather donations from companies, please contact me.
2012 is going to be an exciting year, but there are still 2 more months to this year. I’ve already accomplished my goals for the year (first ultramarathon, 3 marathons, 1 half marathon, & 10k) so working on moving up some goals.
What are you going to finish in 2011?
