Case of the Mondays
2:00:00 – 11.06 miles
Why do people say they have a case of the Mondays? People seem to really dread Monday’s. I’m not sure if people are surprised that Monday has arrived or didn’t fully prepare for it. I understand that most people want to win the lottery and not come into work, but if you know you have to, then plan for it.
Here’s how unusual I am (in case you didn’t already know) ... I start Mondays with a double digit run. This generally means 2 hours of running (slowly) to get things going. Nothing fancy, nothing fast. Just moving forward at low gear to get things moving. It’s also a great way to burn fat from what I ate over the weekend
As I’m more focused on running for several hours rather then speed, this Monday workout provides the opportunity to build a strong base. Almost always, this run is done on a treadmill, so I also get to work on my mental training. Nothing like running in the same place for 2 hours to get the mind crazy focused.
I get excited about starting a new week. There’s the list of what I have to get done and the list of what I want to get done. Every so often, those two lists get completely crossed off by Thursday. If that happens, then I need to work on that “what I want” list to make it longer! Lists are nice to have, but at the same time we shouldn’t judge our success from it. There is such a thing as quality over quantity. Sometimes, getting one item taken off a list of 19 can be more satisfying and successful then 12. Win where you can to allow time for focusing on the other items that require more effort.
For me, Monday is another day of opportunity. Some of it I have control over, and other parts not so much. But guess what? I know that I don’t have control over some of it so I’m not surprised when changes occur! Take advantage of every day you have and you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.
