To Torture or Not To Torture?

There has been a great deal of debate on whether or not the military should torture and what classifies as actual torture. My immediate response is do whatever the hell you have to do to keep us safe. How can we as blue collar workers even understand what it takes to keep this country safe? Take a quick look at Hollywood movies and television … if any of the spy movies are remotely close to the behind the scenes battle being fought, how can we possibly understand the stakes at play. To pull a quote from Col. Jessep in one of my favorite movies, A Few Good Men:

You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post.

Let’s think back just 200 years … a handful of locals decided to stand in a field and shot at their government because they did not want high taxes. Granted, different time, different culture, different expectations. How will we ever know if we have all of the information and which of it is accurate? Again, how close have we been to World War 3 in the past 5 years?

If we know some of the behind-the-scenes battles, I think there would more sleeping disorders.
