Fantastic Four Things Friday – Week Recap No. 9
Whirlwind of a week with unexpectedness, opportunities, exercise, and interesting conversation … oh … and a little running too.
1. Soil in the Box
It’s not just enough to build the gardenbox, but you have to actually put soil in it. As we don’t have a pickup truck, this required me making 3 trips to our local garden center with large boxes lined with garbage bags. It was very much like being in prison: move pile of dirt from ground to car, then move dirt from car to wheelbarrow, then move wheelbarrow to back of the house. Why is this fantastic? Awesome full body workout!
2. Hall Ranch Trail
This is probably my favorite trail because it is the closest one to my house and provides a good challenge. I also hadn’t been on this trail in 4 months and it seemed like a good time to get back out there. Not paying any attention to the weather forecast, it topped out at 74 degrees while on the trail. Glad I keep a bottle of Gatorade in the glove compartment on standby! One of the nice ego boosts on this run was passing 2 guys on a bike. Granted, it is subjective, but it sure felt good!
3. New Clients
Being someone that develops and executes strategies for a living, I’m pretty good at foreseeing when I need to line up new clients. This hasn’t happened in a couple of years, so I was a little excited to see that I could. Often, and I am fortunate for this, I have to turn away new clients and business. Between work-life balance and ensuring I deliver quality, time dictates much of my openings.
4. Mixing it up
On Tuesday at the gym they offer a spin/row class. You spend the first 30 minutes on a bike doing sprints, out of the saddle, jumps, etc and then the 2nd 30 minutes on a rowing machine. Before this class I had never say on a rowing machine. I think I missed my calling! I didn’t stop rowing the entire time and picked up the pace for the last 500 yards race. Fun stuff! I figured that since I’m doing my first triathlon in 6 weeks I should do some cross-training. I have more to say about registering for my first triathlon another day though …
And on that note, I leave you with this image. Please people, be smart and don’t be lazy:
