Sloppy Joe Run
2:08:12 – 10.40 miles
This afternoon I hit a favorite trail that has a strong climb over rocky terrain. RunKeeper says there was a total of 1,382 feet of climbing. It’s a busy trail with many bikers, but I didn’t mind stopping for a few seconds to let them come flying down or struggling up. In one instance, I saw a biker going up over a rock, but the bike did not follow.
About an hour before running, I had lunch with the family. We had sloppy joes. I wasn’t sure how that would sit while running. Fortunately, it was 80% good. Certainly not a meal that I would ever suggest having pre-run.
I ran this same trail two weeks ago and today took off 15 seconds of my average pace. On the way up, it seemed like I was running farther then last time. My big focus over the past 2 weeks has been short steps. Mentally, this is tough because short steps feels like slower. Actually, shorter steps equals efficient running so can go longer. On the treadmill, I’ve been doing LSD (long slow distances) that are about a minute slower then my target marathon pace. Building this strong cardio base appears to be working!
Someone should put this in a book.
