Next Up – Colfax Half Marathon
38:27 – 4 miles
Ran with no iPod today just to see. I really didn’t think about much except running, which tells me I’m starting to move faster. The question will be, how long can I go at this speed? My training for the marathon was ultra conservative … mostly so that I wasn’t found on the side of the road during the marathon.
Yesterday, someone asked me what they should do to lose weight. They asked if they should stop eating sugar, should they run, how many days a week should they exercise, which diet plan is best, and on and on and on.
My advice: reduce your food portions and look for opportunity to be active.
Start there as losing weight is not just a physical task, but it is also a mental one. Once you start taking note of how much food you are eating, then you can start adjusting what it is that you are eating. The second part of the advice included the word “opportunity.” I phrase it this way because you don’t have to completely change it all right now and get a gym membership. Start with parking as far from the office as you can, take the stairs, walk to the store, walk around the office, chase the kids more, and just play. Make it fun and not a chore. Your mind will start to change and understand where you are wanting to go. Remember, it takes 30 days to break a habit, so about week 2, your mind will start to fight back. Be strong and know your goals.
