Where the hell are you?

Where the hell are you?

The past 5 months have been an adventure of being overwhelmed with no balance. Thanks to the ankle incident of 2015 on one of my favorite trails, running came to a halt. Okay, I was still an idiot and did 30 miles with 8,000 feet of climbing at the Run Rabbit Run 100 in Steamboat. See … called myself an idiot. Learned some stuff while not running!

Over the 5 months, I have also had to learn to lower my expectations in my day job. I started listening to people, from whom I work with to candidates I interviewed, of feedback that I was still doing too much. Hearing “it’s not sustainable doing 2-3 people’s jobs” used to motivate me to prove it can be done. It wouldn’t be the first time I have done such a role.

Then I started seeing the light at the end of the not able to run tunnel.

I stopped working day job at night and early mornings.
I stopped multitasking.
I stopped using my iPhone while in the presence of others. (still working on this)

rsz_img_7594I started finding more time with family.
I started going to the gym with family.
I started working with a trainer for strength/form
I started talking to a doctor to look

In other words, priorities came back to focus.

Or as Derek responded “you have a training plan, working with a personal trainer, and talking to a doctor? this is not the Alex I know!”

All true. In other words, if you want change, make it.

It has been 2 weeks of implementing this change and ramp up time is faster than expected. The one side-effect is it appears I need 10 hours of sleep a night. That is posing a challenge with the schedule.

One step at a time.
