Price is Right

Same distance and time as previous run. I was bored. The treadmill I was on was focused on the game show ‘The Price is Right.’ This brought back many memories from my childhood. Growing up, I would watch The Price is Right with my mom. It was great training for going to the store and shopping. In fact, I could get to the checkout and guess the total dollar amount in the shopping cart within $3.

Watching the new Price is Right with Drew Carey was not the same. First off, nobody can be like Bob Barker for a wide variety of reasons. Second, the set has way too much purple. There is an entirely different energy and look to the show that brings into question what the audience is. For example, the final 2 contestants was a woman in her late 60’s and a physically fit woman in her mid-20s. Is it possible to design a look and message of a game show to attract to this audience? It would appear that game shows such as ‘Are You Smarter Then a 5th Grader’ and ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ have been able to do this, but they didn’t have any history. Being able to change the image of something with a long history, and preconceived notions, is a great challenge for marketing professionals.

At least something I find fun at least.
