1st day of preschool for the last time

A week of firsts and lasts, back to the gym, writing, and going through video. Here are four fantastic things to note this Friday.

1. 1st Day of Preschool … for the last time
Our youngest child, number 4, has now started preschool. It is the last time we will have a first day of preschool. It is one of those bittersweet days when we’re excited to see her grow exponentially, but she’s still our baby. Feels like time is accelerating.

2. Starting a new adventure
This week I reported back to an office for the first time in 3 months. I took the summer off for family and running. The feelings are very similar to being in school vacation and having to get back into the routine. I am very excited about the work, new people, and helping an organization drive forward once again!

3. Time at the pool
Just a few weeks left of the pool being open so we took advantage of it! Kids get to play in the giant kids area while I run and do some cross training. Was a hot 90+ degree day, but once in the water didn’t even notice it. Was great to see the improvement Ian has in his swimming and the confidence he has with it. I let him go and do the slides by himself. At the bottom, the lifeguards barely looked at him or said anything. I’ll take that as a sign he is a fairly strong swimmer.

4. Leadville recovery
I was asked several times this week about how long it took to recover from the Leadville 100 52 mile run. Well, I stopped running Saturday night in Leadville and was back at it 3 days later. I’m not one to wait around and if I feel okay, then I’m going running. It has been really fantastic talking about my experience there this week with people from all around the country. I appreciate the emails, messages, calls, texts, and good vibes people have reached out with. I still haven’t lost a toenail, so clearly I’m doing something wrong! Guess I’ll have to run more mountains to accomplish that goal.

And just to be clear: yes, I will be registering for the 2013 Leadville 100 Mile Run.
