52:30 – 5 miles
Topic in the news … high school basketball girls coach is fired for 100 – 0 win. It is believed the firing is because the coach did not tell his team to let-up or allow the other team to score. I have had this discussion with the hockey team I coach regarding being humble. There have been times when they were up by 6 goals in the first period and they start talking about how they are going to win. I quickly put them into check that there is still time on the clock so they should focus. However, that is what this coach said to his basketball team. I take it another step further and change the strategy so they can work on other skill areas … for instance I tell the kids that they can’t shoot on the goal until they pass 3 times and I put out the 2nd line more often. It’s a fine balance between being humble and winning.
At the same time, you need to look at the big picture and place yourself in the other team’s shoes.
