Rocky Mountain Pain

RACE DAY
2:27:46 – 13.1 Miles

Hilly. Wet. Hard. Pain. Wow.

As a couple thousand of us gathered around under trees to avoid as much of the rain until the start, I sensed this would be a different race. With one half marathon under my belt, I started wondering how close today’s Rocky Mountain Half Marathon would be to that one. There were some differences.

For one, there were 4 hills in the first 3 miles. After hill I kept saying that there must be a downhill coming soon. Not so much.

Second, it was raining, which I generally love to run in, but toss in some wind and it is no good.

Third, around mile 9 there was a shooting pain in my left knee. I did what I always do and ran through it. Seemed fine until I slowed to a stop to grab a gel and Gatorade. Then the pain would not stop.

The good stuff: knocked 22 minutes off my last half marathon.

Would have blogged sooner, but went to the sidewalk chalk festival down at Larimer Square. Really wasn't a great idea as I was limping the whole time :) Knee is doing much better after a couple hours of icing and about a 1,000 calories.

Have been debating the Slacker Half, but the next one I am registered for is the Denver Marathon ... yes, the full 26.2 miles!

Slacker 1/2? I want to do that one. Really? Wow, so this was training for that one. Do you feel like it after today?

Congratulations on gittin' it done, Alex! Hope your knee feels better very soon. 22 minutes is a huge improvement. Looking to do another 1/2 soon? :) Have been checking your blog all day to find your update, that was prompt blogging!
