Non-Running Day

A book that I have been reading over the past week (even though it could be read in a day if someone had no responsibilities) is a book called Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. It focuses on the art of ‘thin slicing.’ Have you ever had a feeling about a situation or someone that you couldn’t explain? According to this book, these feelings and hunches are generated by your subconscious taking in the signs. The book has come at an interesting time for me as I go on job interviews and consulting contracts. I am currently interviewing with two very different companies. I keep getting a feeling about one that tells me to go with the other, but can’t put my finger on why. My subconscious is telling me which to choose, by other factors are making it hard to listen. These other factors include salary and location. You would imagine that these are important factors when deciding on your next job, but still I get this feeling of the one with the lower salary and less opportunity for advancement. Back to the book … I haven’t finished it yet, but one of the selling points of the book is to help you tap into your subconscious to get the most information you can about a situation or decision.

Then there is the option of expanding my own company. I think about this often and am only in need of one more piece to make my company a full-throttle go: VP of Sales. I know who I want as he is extremely energetic and talented! He could make the sales himself or motivate a team exceptionally well.

Should hopefully know more about all of the above in the next week.

  1. Blink is a fixture on my bookshelf at work. You’ve motivated me to get it down and read through it again. There is something to ‘going with your gut’, but careful thought is also necessary at times. No one book or person can influence your decision, but remember, it’s only as final as you make it. That being said, go with what will make you happy because that is what life is about.
